Lucy participated in the Clough State Park Triathalon sponsored by the YMCA of Concord. She was very nervous about the race. She would be swimming 125 yards in the lake, biking 2 miles to the dam, and running 1/2 mile loop.
Here she was waiting with the lifeguards to enter the water for the beginning of the race. She was the most fashionable swimmer they had - pink, pink, and pink.
She also was the smallest participant they had - by age and size.
The swim was tough for her. Here she did a bit of a backstroke to rest during this leg. She had to swim around the buoy, then exit. She was the last in her age group to leave the water.
I asked if she was cold from the swim. She said she was exhausted from the swim. You can see it in her face here.
She made up a LOT of time on the bike ride. Here she is being directed back into the transition area for the run.
Annie was not interested in most of the race. However, she found her own entertainment. Just proof there is no such thing as boring events just boring people.Lucy's there in the background...running her little heart out. Spencer and Annie were cheering her on. I didn't get a picture of her crossing the finish line. I put the camera down and cheered and gave her a hug. I hope the event photographer got her picture!
Lucy's results are posted here.
Here she called Gammie and Papa to assure them she survived the swim. She was letting them know that she finished and was 100% finished. She was 9th overall and 8th in her age group.
The reward at the end was a snow cone. Oh, how we love the Kona Cone Truck!
Lucy posing with Ms Deb from the YMCA. She is the director of our Child Development Center and has known Lucy for years. She was so excited to see Lucy and cheered for her, even while directing the bicycle traffic.
